At least since the fall, when I first got here. [By this point, their conversation has moved them to the front of the line of the vendor.] We'll take two, please. I'll have a strawberry. And then whatever... [He looks over and up at Juza. It occurs to him that they haven't... actually been introduced.] ... this guy wants.
[Turnips are very powerful vegetables. The screaming turnips are even more determined to cling to life. The cold weather outside is probably helping to preserve them.]
Juza, then. I'm Fugo. [The vendor is a bit confused by the order. "You sure you want two? If you're here together, I've got a special--" Fugo sighs.] How the hell can we be together, if aren't even introduced? [Never...mind... the whole speed dating thing. Fuck that tradition, by the by.] Two is fine.
[Maybe with someone he knew a little better, Fugo would go for the We're Totally Dating con in order to secure the cheaper crepe. As things stand, he has no idea how good Juza is at improv. There's no point in trying to cheat your way into discounts with partners who can't act.
Either way, it's no skin off of the vendor's nose to get a pair of Mirrourbound to pay full price for his goods. He's quick to put their snacks together and hand them off in exchange for payment. Rather than taking a bite of his, Fugo picks one of the strawberries off the top.]
[He's fine at improv, as long as he's got a while to think about the character. Which is to say, he's great when given time and direction but at a complete loss when he's thrown out and made to do street acts.
Maybe it's for the best Fugo didn't attempt to start acting.]
More the way you're holding yourself. [Okay. He bought this stupid crepe, so he should probably... eat it. Fugo takes a tentative bite of it. He then promptly makes a bit of a face at how sweet it is, before continuing to speak.] ... you know. Keeping to the edge of things, not really talking to anybody.
[There's absolute silence for a moment, before he looks away, shoulders tensing slightly. Does he really want to say "no, that's normal?" It's true, but it's embarrassing. Talking to people's not his forte, that's more for Taichi and Banri if they have to do it at all.]
[... weird reaction. Fugo watches Juza, wondering what it was he said to make him tense up like that. Well-- whatever. They can move on.]
Have you found a place to stay? The Coven is-- well, they're whatever, but they've put together some housing for Mirrorbound. And there are plenty of part-time jobs throughout the city, so you won't be broke forever.
[People he still doesn't trust: the Coven! But he'll take that anxiety and put it in a box. And then put that box in another box, then hide that box underneath a piece of furniture. They don't need to get into it right now.]
The best way to find work is to check the message boards. There are a few in the Coven, but you'll also see them on the network. A lot of it is temporary, but if you keep at it you might find something long term. What kind of skills do you have?
It probably won't be hard to find a job for the first two. [And now, unknowingly but completely mercilessly, he proceeds to crush Juza's dreams.] Theater's illegal, though. You'll have a hard time finding any legitimate acting work.
[Fugo takes another bite of his crepe while he considers Juza. ... is he really good at acting? He doesn't seem like the type. But it's such a weird skill to lie about. Not to mention that, so far, he's been almost painfully straightforward in this conversation. He... probably isn't lying? Maybe it's his hobby, or something.]
No clue. But you can see it for yourself-- there are theaters in the Entertainment District, but they've all been abandoned. [He pauses, before making a pointed suggestion. Juza's tall and looks tough, but that doesn't necessarily mean he would know what to do with himself if he ran face first into some actually serious crimes.] Actually, don't go poking around in any of them. You'll just get yourself in trouble.
[What the hell happened in this place? It's theater, did they lead a gang war? He can't imagine what lead to the outright ban of all theatrical productions.]
Are you telling me there're gangs livin' in the theaters now?
Gangs, thugs, criminals of various affiliations or lack thereof-- [Fugo waves his empty hand in the air in front of him. As if this sort of thing is no big deal and kind of to be expected.] That sort of thing. Without anyone taking care of the buildings, it was bound to happen.

I'm Juza.
[There's only a moment's hesitation.]
Raspberries, if you've got them.

What he said.
[Not that he's against dating guys or anything, but he just got here. Juza's fine with following Fugo's lead on this one.]

Are you one of the latest batch of Mirrorbound?

Yeah. Was it obvious 'cause I was broke?

You looked a little lost.

... Guess I'll work on that.

Hard labor, I guess? Lifting stuff. Acting. [He's not going to admit to brawling when he absolutely doesn't want to do it.]
