Oh, I don't know. That depends. Knives are pretty good, but you have to be careful about what kind of knife it is; there are a lot of junk blades out there. They can also slip in your hand if you aren't using them right.
Bats are nice. Yes, they can be messy, but they're also relatively lightweight, mostly inconspicuous, and designed to be swung. Honestly just about everything can be used as a bludgeoning tool. Guns are quick and easy, so long as you know how to handle them... but have a risk of hearing loss over time, plus you have to be careful about things like casings, spent cartridges, bullets, etc. Assuming of course there's a competent investigation happening.
